PlayStation 3 vs. XBox 360: Which one is Best

By GameWiz | Jul 5, 2008

From last couple of Weeks a friend of mine was asking me this question frequently. He used to tell me which one is best, XBox 360 or Playstation 3. He always ended up in favor of Playstation 3, but I love Microsoft and Their Console, so I never agreed with him. We always ended up in a controversy until yesterday, when I searched for the comparison between these two games and found for myself which one is the best. I found a head to head Comparison of the two gaming consoles and also a Graphics comparison of XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 and now after hours of research, I can say that XBox 360 is the best. Let us put some numbers below and  see for ourselves which one is best.

As you can see, the specifications of both the consoles are somewhat similar, with the exception of System Memory, Video Memory, Controller Ports and L2 Cache. So it is difficult to tell which is the clear winner. But the XBox 360 wins hand up in terms of memory, both system as well as Video. The games on PlayStation 3 run a bit faster but the graphics on Xbox 360 are better. Let us now take a look at how the games look like on both the consoles.

Comparison is accurate but a bit misleading. For example, there is no mention of the 7 SPEs in addition to the core processor. Comparing graphics based on multiplatform games is pretty silly because most developers have yet to make full use of the PS3 and have put more work into the more popular 360 versions anyway. If you want a showcase of the PS3’s abilities and an amazing game, get MGS4.

The conclusion is biased and made by someone who is clearly unqualified. For example, the memory is the SAME for both. It is just distributed differently. Xbox 360 shares the memory for system and video while the PS3 has dedicated memory. However, it is still 512 MB total for each console. Moreover, XDR memory has lower latency and so the PS3 may actually have an edge. Additionally, the PS3 is the only console to support full 1080p HD and Blu-Ray. It is clear that the PS3 offers more advanced technology, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for everyone. If you only want a console for games and not a full media center too, the 360 has a larger library at the moment.

BTW: How can you possibly love Microsoft - a company that has thrived by abusing their power and often acting immorally. A company that has refused to innovate until forced to by the competition. For example, MS has only started improving IE when Firefox started taking marketshare. Of course, I’d still refuse to use IE for ethical reasons, even if they catch up. I want the web to be based on open standards and accessible to everyone, regardless of OS.

I love you Al! Personally, I have an Xbox 360 for Halo 3, but the PS3 is definitely technically superior. And Microsoft is trash, the headsets they provide are easily broken for no reason and my AV cable broke recently, and I barely ever even touched it. Microsoft is trash. Open standards are the best.
