PlayStation 3 vs. XBox 360: Which one is Better

By GameWiz | Jul 5, 2008

From last couple of Weeks a friend of mine was asking me this question frequently. He used to tell me which one is best, XBox 360 or Playstation 3. He always ended up in favor of Playstation 3, but I love Microsoft and Their Console, so I never agreed with him. We always ended up in a controversy until yesterday, when I searched for the comparison between these two games and found for myself which one is the best. I found a head to head Comparison of the two gaming consoles and also a Graphics comparison of XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 and now after hours of research, I can say that XBox 360 is the best. Let us put some numbers below and  see for ourselves which one is best.

As you can see, the specifications of both the consoles are somewhat similar, with the exception of System Memory, Video Memory, Controller Ports and L2 Cache. So it is difficult to tell which is the clear winner. But the XBox 360 wins hand up in terms of memory, both system as well as Video. The games on PlayStation 3 run a bit faster but the graphics on Xbox 360 are better. Let us now take a look at how the games look like on both the consoles.

yea, agreed that ps3 is better.. nfs on the ps3 has a much stronger colour and more detailed background than the 360 same goes for iron-man.

for all those people who say zbox360 has better graphic must be either poor and can’t afford a ps3 so they resort to become n zboz fanbot or just plain blind.

    just my 20 cents.

xbox sold more system than ps3.
reason : it has been hacked and pirated games are available.
in conclusion, people who can’t afford the better console would buy the xbox as it has pirated games.
    in conclusion

yea bout wat u said rocky u r completly wrong in my opinion da ps3 is a total rip off and is not worth da money those idiots think they can get for it. i just got done viewing comparisons on both systems the ps3 only looked better on ironman which is a terrible gam anyway. the only difference is the color and the brightness of both systems so the ps3 sucks and is not better. dnt lie to ur self u know da 360 is way better the graphic system in da 360 is far mor advanced then the ps3. so u might want 2 re-think ur opinion.

The only time the PS3 graphics are worse is on multiplatform games that were developed on the 360 & then (badly) ported to the PS3. A lot of early games were done this way due to the ease of developing on the 360, & the fact that it has been out longer. Check exclusives out for a better idea of graphical capability. I know you can’t do a direct comparison on exclusives, but it shows what a particular platform is capable of. I am not suggesting that the 360 is a bad machine (apart from build quality, & before you say they’re better now, I spoke to one of the staff at Game who said they are still receiving lots of faulty 360’s back daily, & this includes the falcon & jasper chipsets), & at present the 2 machines are throwing out very similar quality, but look at the likes of Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, & Killzone 2. Games like Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5, & God of War III on the way.

PS3 is alot of money to spend on a console. I personally did not want to purchase one untill i was able to get a good deal…but after i purchased it, iv realized, it is SOOOO much better than xbox 360. It does not break or crash, it is a mature system that is versitile in every way and is more like a computer adapted for extreme videogame use rather than just a console.

I have both an xbox 360 and a ps3. Put it this way….i took the HDMI wire out of the 360 and put it in my ps3 a week ago as soon as i bought it….i havnt connected my xbox since. XBox im sorry to say, feels, looks, performs in a cheap way. You get what you pay for. I have NEVER seen better graphics than MGS4 in my life and there is nooooo way xbox 360 can ever create a game like that.

    Final Conclusion:
PS3 games and movies are printed only on Blueray discs. These are 20 to 30 gig games. Xbox is still stuck on regular dvds especially since their HD DVD package is now obsolete. I recommend to purchase exclusive PS3 games that are not released for any console. This is because they are not cheap 1 to 5 gig games…but when applicable 20+gig games. THis = better graphics, better gameplay, better sound, better control over character, better EVERYTHING.

Look at MGS4, or blueray EXLUSIVE PS3 games….this is modern technology. Xbox is now obsolete. Get with it…

I have to agree with Chicken Runner about Metal Gear Solid 4, it’s not so much a game as it is an experience to behold. I kept putting it off as I didn’t get on with the 3rd game on the PS2 (I liked the first 2). Yes, you do have to get on with cutscenes, but if you just treat it like an interactive movie, it surpasses everything I’ve seen before. Even my fiance couldn’t tear her eyes away from the screen, & she doesn’t like games with cutscenes. Killzone 2 may be the best looking game engine on the PS3 right now, but for epic scale, & if you like a good story in your games (hurry up Final Fantasy whatever, I love those games) MGS4 is a must.

As for the 360 not being able to do the graphics on MGS4, I can’t substansiate that as I haven’t had any real experience with the system. I think what it would struggle with is the sheer amount of information on the disc. it would either need compressed textures/sounds, or 3-5 DVD’s. It’s highly unlikely to ever get anywhere near the 360 anyway, so it’s not really an issue.

I delayed purchasing a third generation (or fifth or sixth depending on who you ask) gaming system until I could afford a nice 1080p plasma TV – now that prices have come down considerably on TVs, I’ve done a lot of research on the Xbox vs. the Playstation 3. I’ve played a lot on the Xbox and the 360 with friends, and have to say it’s a lot of fun, especially with multiple players. However, I’m a lifetime Sony fan, and a big fan of the Metal Gear series so I had to try and be objective and give each system a chance.

One question on the article above…I’m wondering how accurate his screen comparisons are. Considering the first picture, the graphics on the bottom frame are clearly better. More crisp, and more contrast.

Yet he’s got the one which uses the Playstation controller buttons in the main menu Labeled as Xbox 360…was that a one time error? or are all of the comparisons botched?

Seems to me that because you own an Xbox, took a bunch of screens on both systems, and after review realized that the PS3 does indeed have better graphics. So you switched the labels and posted them to make yourself feel better. Or you really just goofed up, lol.

The bottom line is that PS3 is a more powerful graphics platform. However, it is a harder architecture to harness and therefore to develop games for. This has allowed Xbox to take a clear advantage early on. As a result, Sony is taking steps to make it easier to develop for. I expect to see continuous improvement from the PS3 for the next few years, and more of the same from XBox 360. Playstation 3 will have many more milestone games in the next 2-3 years than will Xbox 360. The same phenomenon existed with the Playstation 1-2. Just think of how different the games looked and played at the end of the system’s life than when it first start out. It’s remarkable, really.

I’ve chosen to go with the PS3, because as a late bloomer, I expect to see more improvement and better games arriving on this platform, while the Xbox just pumps out boring rehashes of the same games it’s offered for years now.

For anyone who has played MGS4 and Kill Zone 2 on a 50″ plus plasma in 1080p….you’ll understand why I decided the way I did.

    PS3 kicks 360’s ass

  13. Taylor Lukesh April 27, 2009 11:40 pm

I’m sorry but your facts are favoring the Xbox beacause you didn’t put in the FREE playstation network service or the 160 GB hard drive and there is no way in hell that a system developed before 2005 with just the crappy HDDVD can be better than the state of the art Blue Ray disc that offers way better picture so take the pictures right stop lying to yourself and just admit that the Playstation 3 is better and like they said you just can’t afford one and need a reason to not have one. I have played them both and the 360 seriously sucks.

to rocky…your a dumb fuck for saying that people with xbox 360 are poor…360 came out a year before PS3 so duh of course it cost less but that not the point…people want the best value for their money. Obviously everyone can see that 360 have way more mb/gb than PS3 and here go another point PS3 is one year younger so Sony got enough time to be more advance to blase 360 away, but it didn’t happen and Sony actually lost thousand of dollar because of PS3 poor sale.

I get every game informer that comes out i have been a huge xbox fan from the beginning but ever since ive been geting the new game informers since about 4months ago ive decited to switch over to ps3 ill give you one good reason in the new one with the game rAge on the cover if you go to page43 if you look at the orange box where it says the blueray issue it says (Since Rage is running on powerhouse id tech5 engine, the developeris haveing a tough time squeezing everything oonto standerd DVDs for the pc and 360 releases. “we would love to set the thing up where it filled up one blueray disk compared to 3 dvds, witch is about the right mix, but the game just… we cant cut into a third like that” Carmack says, “we cant cut it int two pecies.weve got two large waistlanda on therewe just couldnt make an arbitrary cout. But Doom 4is beeing set up so that its almost certainly going to be cut upto three dvds versus oneblue-ray. At least the got the ability because the way its structured”) so just in that way it makes the ps3 prob about 10 to 20 % a better system that xbox ontop of that i have had over 5 xboxes since they have came out one of my friends got the ps3 the very firs tay it came out and he has never had any problems so i sold my xbox and bought a ps3 so ima ps3 guy now in my eyes the only thing xbox has better is memory and thats it sorry xbox fans i just ditche you for ps3 and my name is my ps3 name.

360 doesn’t have better memory. It has 512MB shared ram running at 700mhz. The PS3 has 256MB ram running the GPU at 700mhz, & 256MB ram running the cell at 3.2GHZ. It may be slightly more flexible having all of your ram shared, but when the CPU RAM on the PS3 runs at over 4 times the speed of the ram on the 360 that’s got to help matters somewhat, & we all know that the GPU is the PS3’s weak point, & the cell is it’s strong point.

It’s to bad that the PSN sucks. Xbox Live is a million times better than the playstation version. If they didn’t give the service away for free nobody would use it. As it is, there are millions more XBL users.

I also noticed that the people that play on the playstation version aren’t as good. In call of duty I have like a 3 to 1 kill ratio on sony but on xbox it’s more like 1.5 to 1. It’s not that I’m worse on one system versus the other it’s that the players aren’t as skilled.

If I want to play a game I want to be challenged, not play against a bunch of noobs.

Also, who cares about a blue ray player. I’ve owned systems for 10 years and never watched a DVD on my console. I bought it to play games.
